Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali launches India’s first Ayurvedic medicine for coronavirus

Haridwar/Kolkata: Ayurvedic products maker Patanjali on Tuesday launched world’s first anti-Corona ayurvedic medicine to combat the deadly virus. Patanjali announced to launch ‘Coronil and Swasari’, claiming it as the Ayurvedic cure for treating COVID-19. Swami Ramdev, the yoga guru, unveiled the medicine at a press conference at Patanjali’s headquarters in Haridwar, Uttarakhand.

Patanjali also claimed that it is an evidence-based medicine for treatment of Covid-19, and said that it has been shown 100 per cent favourable results during clinical trials on affected patients.

The company also said that the medicine has no side effects and can be taken by both, people who are suffering from corona and people who want to take it as a prevention to boost immunity and combat the virus.

The anti-corona kit launched by Patanjali comprises of ayurvedic medicines and herbs to boost immunity and combat the deadly coronavirus. The anti-corona kit includes 3 medicines namely– Coronil Tablet, Anu Taila and Swasari Vati.

Patanjali said the research was undertaken by a joint team of the Patanjali Research Institute (PRI) and the National Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Jaipur.

However, the Patanjali medicine has not been validated by any independent medical body as of now. The World Health Organization (WHO) had recently said that while several drug trials are ongoing, there is currently no proof that any drug can cure or prevent COVID-19. The launch of an ayurvedic drug for Covid-19 by Patanjali has come at a time when more than 100 candidate-vaccines are in various stages of development across the world. Some of the vaccines are in advanced stages of human trials.

Launching the medicine, Ramdev said, “The whole world has been waiting for someone to develop a medicine for coronavirus. Today, we are proud that we developed the first ayurvedic medicine for coronavirus. It has been named Coronil.”

Ramdev said that his company Patanjali had conducted two trials of Coronil and Swasari. First, a clinical-controlled study, which took place in different cities including Delhi and Ahmedabad.

“We conducted two trials of these, first clinical controlled study, which took place in Delhi, Ahmedabad, among many other cities. Under this, 280 patients were included and 100 per cent of those recovered. We were able to control Corona and its complications in this. After this the all-important clinical control trial was conducted,” he said.

Ramdev claimed that Patanjali has followed “all scientific rules” in developing this ayurvedic medicine to treat Covid-19 patients.

“With the help of NIMS, Jaipur we conducted the clinical control study on 95 patients. The biggest thing which came out of this is that within three days 69 per cent patients recovered and became negative from positive (cases) and within seven days 100 per cent of them became negative,” he said.

Acharya Balkrishna, MD of Patanjali, was also present at the occasion of the launch along with other officials and representatives who had taken part in the preparation of the medicine.
