Chandigarh workforce tops in work life balance list: Study

Mumbai/Kolkata: The Make Space for Life Survey, a light hearted study on work-life-balance, was conducted across 13 cities including Chandigarh, Mumbai, Jaipur, Patna, Coimbatore, Pune, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad. The survey aims to highlight that in pursuit of professional excellence and maintaining work life balance, people feel they are losing out significantly on creating strong family ties or spending quality time with friends.

77% of Chandigarh workforce rate their work life equilibrium as balanced followed by 74% of Ahmedabad according to the latest findings of Godrej Interio’s Make Space for Life Survey. These figures contrast sharply with responses from Kolkata (13%) and Delhi (16%) which reveal a major imbalance in their work life ratio.

The study revealed that while Kolkata, Chennai Hyderabad and Delhi are not being able to give time to family, friends and their own passion due to work pressure, compared with Ahmedabad, Patna, Pune and Jaipur who have better work life balance.

While, more than three-quarters (77%) of the respondents in Chennai claim they miss out on living their life in their own way in the balancing act of work-life compared to only 47% of the respondents in Patna.

The survey also reveals that work pressure plays a major role in hampering work life balance. For instance, 74% of the respondents in Hyderabad and Chennai feel work pressure does not allow them to spend ample time with their families compared to only 39% respondents in Pune.

Similarly, 43% of the respondents in Delhi claim they are not able to give time to their passion due to their professional life compared to a meager 12% of respondents in Jaipur.

Anil Mathur, COO, Godrej Interio said, “Today’s working professionals are losing out significantly on creating strong family ties or spending quality time with friends due to pressures of demanding professional lives. As per our survey findings, with the excessive pressure of work Indians across tier 1 and 2 are finding less time for family-friends bonding and pursuing their passion. The data reveals that the workforce across different cities are not able make space for life not merely in the physical sense, but in terms of the pressures and obligations, they face. People are not being able to maintain a healthy work life balance and this imbalance can lead to relationship compromise, physical as well as mental well-being.”

He said, “As a brand, Godrej Interio makes a conscious effort to brighten homes through its innovative range of furniture and distinct designs and urges Indians to make more time for their favorite pastime, or their loved ones by making space for life passion, family and friends.”

The onset of the global pandemic and the resultant lockdown, has given families across India and the world a new lease of familial bonding that was otherwise hard to come by and this enforced togetherness can deepen relationships for years to come.
