Films Division celebrates National Girl Child Day with special screenings

Mumbai/Kolkata: The National Girl Child Day is celebrated on 24th January every year, across the country, to generate awareness about valuing the girl child and recognizing her rights. Films Division will join hands in the celebrations by organizing an online film festival underscoring the importance of girl child’s rights, health and education, on 24th January 2022, in which six short films will be screened on FD website and YouTube Channel. The festival is organized as a   part of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebration by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, says a press release.

The Girl Child package include: Chimukali – Save the girl child (2013 / Sonal Thakur) – this film has an emotional appeal to save the girl child. As girls are looked upon as a symbol of love and care, the girl child in this film makes a humble, poetic request to let her live and make a difference in this world. The film shows positivity, hope and acceptance of girl child.

Education Only Her Future (1998 / Arun Gongade) – this musical short film is a story of a poor potter’s daughter. When she was born, her father took it for granted that his girl will do all the house-hold work, but later he realizes the urge in his daughter to study and decides to educate her.

Pratibha (1999/Mukesh Chandra) -a documentary set on rural India’s background denotes the importance of a girl child in our society. It also gives a hard-hitting message that with equal opportunities, girls can touch any height.

Kuldeepak (1995/Kumar Sohoni) – the film depicts the importance of empowering girl child and also underlines the accomplishments of her dreams.

My Fairy – My Strength (1986/Kamini Kaushal) – through a story of a little girl Bulbul, this film sends a message across that it is through self-help and perseverance that anything can be achieved. Bulbul, a school girl, paves the way to meeting the challenge and fulfilling her dream.

Roshni (1988/Bhimsain) – an animation film on inculcating good values in life. Priya, a protagonist in this film, develops a habit of looking good in every odd situation. By virtue of her habit, Priya manages to change the attitude of everyone around her.                     

The festival will be streamed on https://filmsdivision.org/ “Documentary of the Week” and https://www.youtube.com/user/FilmsDivision on 24th January, 2022, for 24 hours.
