PM Modi meets Senior Ministers to discuss national-level status on COVID19

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday held a detailed meeting with Senior Ministers and Officials to review country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The meeting was attended by Home Minister Amit Shah, Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Principal Secretary to PM, Cabinet Secretary, Health Secretary, DG ICMR and other related conveyance of the Empowered Groups.

The Prime Minister took stock of pandemic situation in different states and UTs, including Delhi, in meeting with officials. The meeting reviewed the national level status and preparation in the context of the pandemic.

Prime Minister took cognizance of the recommendations of the Empowered Group on city- and district-wise requirements of hospital beds/isolation beds which will be required and instructed Health Ministry officials to undertake emergency planning in consultation with the States/UTs.

PM also advised the Ministry to ensure suitable preparations in view of the start of the Monsoon season.

A detailed presentation on the current status and likely scenario of Covid-19 cases in the medium term was given to the PM. It was observed that out of the total cases two-thirds are in 5 states with an overwhelming proportion of cases in big cities.

In view of the challenges being faced, particularly by the large cities, it was discussed to augment testing as well as the number of beds and services to effectively handle the peak surge of daily cases.

The present and emerging scenario of the COVID 19 disease in the capital was discussed and the projection for next 2 months was deliberated.

Prime Minister also suggested that Home Minister and Health Minister should convene an emergency meeting with Lt Governor, Chief Minister of Government of NCT Delhi in presence of all senior officials of Government of India, Government of Delhi and officials of Municipal Corporations of Delhi to plan a coordinated and comprehensive response to handle the challenge posed by rising cases of COVID-19.

Prime Minister Modi will hold a fresh round of consultation with Chief Ministers of all the States and Union Territories on 16 and 17th June as the country gradually emerges out of coronavirus lockdown.

Prime Minister Modi will be meeting Chief Ministers of 21 States and UTs on June 16th at 3pm and remaining 15 States and UTs on June 17th at 3pm. Several important discussions on further measures to deal with #COVID19 pandemic expected in the meetings.

PM will interact with CMs of 21 States/UTs on June 16 – Punjab, Assam, Kerala, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Tripura, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Goa, Manipur, Nagaland, Ladakh, Puducherry, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Dadar Nagar Haveli & Dama Diu, Sikkim and Lakshadweep.

Chief Ministers of critical COVID19 States/UTs like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Telangana and Odisha to meet Prime Minister separately on the second day i.e. June 17th at 3pm.
