Imphal: With an aim to eliminate cervical carcinoma, technology-led oncology platform Karkinos Manipur Cancer Institute and Research Centre has launched Colposcopy, LEEP and Thermal Ablation Services at the Hospital.
The Colposcopy, LEEP (Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure) and Thermal Ablation services will treat the pre-cancerous condition of cervix in order to prevent cervical cancer with an aim to eliminate cervical cancer. These facilities are available in OPD procedure.
A Colposcopy is a painless procedure to closely examine the cervix/vagina in order to find out whether there are any abnormal cells.
LEEP is a specific procedure to remove abnormal cells and tissues in a woman’s lower genital tract and these tissues are sent for further histopathological examination.
Thermal Ablation is an effective way for the treatment of pre-cancerous cervical lesions by ablating the abnormal cervical tissue.
Dr. Thingujam James, Consultant, Gynae-Oncologist, Karkinos Manipur Cancer Institute and Research Centre said, “Cervical Cancer is the 2nd commonest cancer among the women in India. HPV infection especially 16 & 18 variants are the main causative virus for cervical cancer. So, all women should undergo HPV DNA screening in order to prevent development of cervical Cancer.”
HPV DNA Test (Human Papillomavirus) detects the presence of human papillomavirus, a virus that can lead to the development of abnormal cervical cells or cervical cancer and genital warts. Many women who were found HPV DNA positive during the Centre’s cancer awareness camps, visited the Hospital to avail these Services.
